Hosted by the UF | Florida Semiconductor Institute, the first annual STEM on the Lawn event brought together more than 900 students, families, educators, and community members on Saturday, September 27 at the Reitz Union Lawn for a day of hands-on learning, discovery, and STEM-focused fun.

Last week, we hosted the second annual UF | Florida Semiconductor Institute Industry Mixer in Malachowsky Hall providing students interested in semiconductor careers the opportunity to connect with some of the leading companies in the industry.

The Student Innovation Pitch Competition at the 2026 Florida Semiconductor Summit gives student innovators the chance to present their semiconductor-related projects (research or business ideas) to industry leaders, academic partners, and investors across the state.

We’re excited to welcome Kayla as our new Event Assistant! Kayla brings solid experience in event planning and a real passion for creating great guest experiences, making her a great fit for our team. She will play a key part in supporting our events and engagement efforts.

We’re excited to welcome Ben Larry as FSI’s Assistant Director of Workforce Integration. In this role, Ben will focus on the “last mile” of the educational training process, ensuring that students and trainees are not only ready for the semiconductor workforce but also successfully placed in industry roles. He brings extensive knowledge on what companies are looking for in hires, and a strong passion for training up the next generation. Ben will also play a key role in strengthening connections between industry and higher education institutions across Florida.

The Florida Semiconductor Institute is preparing to submit a proposal to lead the NNME Node for the Southeast region. As part of this effort, we aim to convene our Florida partners ahead of the solicitation deadline to highlight the strengths of Florida’s workforce development ecosystem and identify key gaps that this opportunity can help address.

Last month, a group of seven Florida A&M University (FAMU) students, four from the Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) program and three from Electrical Engineering (EE), attended a transformative two-day Semiconductor Workshop at the University of Florida’s Nanoscale Research Facility (NRF). Led by Dr. Jack Judy, Professor and Director of the Nanoscience Institute for Medical and Engineering Technologies (NIMET).
