The IEEE TryEngineering Educator Session, hosted in partnership with the University of Florida’s Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI), provided Florida educators with a two-day professional development experience focused on semiconductor education, engineering design, and artificial intelligence.
IEEE Semiconductor Workshop Empowers Florida Educators with Industry Knowledge
After a successful and inspiring session last summer, the IEEE TryEngineering Educator Session returned to NeoCity, Florida for a two-day session across June 17th and June 18th. The IEEE TryEngineering Educator Session program allows educators across the country to learn from semiconductor industry experts to prepare their students for their industry, completely free of charge.
Supported by the Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI), the NeoCity session focused on semiconductors, engineering design, and artificial intelligence, equipping educators with the resources and knowledge to integrate these high-demand topics into their classrooms to prepare the next generation of industry leaders.
Throughout the training, educators:
- Explored the history and importance of semiconductors and their role in modern technology.
- Learned how to integrate the Engineering Design Process into classroom instruction.
- Participated in hands-on semiconductor activities designed to engage students in STEM learning.
- Toured SkyWater Technology to gain insight into real-world semiconductor manufacturing and career opportunities.
- Explored classroom-ready semiconductor resources and lesson-planning strategies.
- Received an introduction to artificial intelligence through interactive activities and discussions.
- Connected with industry professionals and guest speakers to better understand emerging technologies and workforce needs.
- Identified career pathways and opportunities within the semiconductor and advanced technology industries.
- Developed strategies for implementing engineering and technology-focused lessons aligned with workforce and industry trends.
- Highlighted Florida’s growing semiconductor ecosystem and Etch resources that are helping educators connect students to high-demand careers in semiconductor technology.
By the end of the session, educators left with practical classroom resources, hands-on learning experiences, industry connections, and increased confidence in introducing semiconductor and AI concepts to students while helping build awareness of high-demand technology careers.
