Last week, we hosted the second annual Semiconductor Education Day, a one-day event providing educators from across Florida with hands-on experiences in UF semiconductor labs, interactive sessions on integrating semiconductor concepts into K-20 curricula, inspiring talks on building educational partnerships, and much more.
2025 FSI Semiconductor Education Day Recap
We were proud to host over 50 educators, administrators, deans, and guidance counselors from across the state to provide insights into the rapidly growing semiconductor industry. The event began with opening remarks from Dr. David Arnold, Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI) Director, and was followed by a tour of the Nanoscale Research Facility (NRF) lab and the FSI Lab in Malachowsky Hall. These tours provided educators with a close up look at what a career in the semiconductor industry looks like and the advanced research paving the way for the next generation.
The event featured talks from the FSI Workforce Development team, Dr. Roseanne Perez, FSI Workforce Development Program Specialist, who discussed early learning integration resources that FSI offers, and Sophia Watson, Assistant Director of Workforce Development, who spoke about the latest workforce and industry trends in the state. Additional speakers included Nilda Blanco, Founder of Nilda Blanco Consulting and former Director of CareerSource Central Florida and representatives from Hernando County, highlighting the current educational partnerships, the opportunity for continued growth, and the importance of the semiconductor industry in Florida.
An interactive panel, Learning in Action: How Our Partners are Bringing Semiconductor Education to Life, also allowed educators to learn from education partners that are actively implementing and leading successful semiconductor programs to make a difference in semiconductor education at their schools, colleges, and universities.
Florida educators left with practical tools, new connections, and fresh ideas to prepare the next engineers, scientists, and innovators in the classroom.
A special thank you to all of our speakers, panelists, and partners who helped make this event possible!
