FSI’s Plan of Action for Workforce Development

At FSI we are dedicated to building out the semiconductor workforce in Florida and the United States. To accomplish this goal we take a broad approach to semiconductor education, preparing a workforce at all levels and each role in semiconductor processing. This begins at the high school and vocational level and traverses the spectrum of education, through community college students, undergraduate students and graduate students. In this way a homegrown workforce will be built out from technicians, to IT specialists, equipment managers, process engineers, and even R&D engineers, providing opportunity at every level and in turn helping to build out the semiconductor industry in Florida.

To accomplish these goals FSI will utilize different educational forms and will maintain a strong partnership with industry and government employers.  The primary modality for workforce development will be joint on campus and on site trainings with industry and government for students to gain real world experience with semiconductor processing, and through short and semester long courses offered at UF and partnering institutions. With these methods of training FSI aims to instill a foundational knowledge in students and expand that knowledge further through tutorials, panels, webinars, student exchanges and internships focused on the semiconductor industry and led by our resident industry experts at FSI.

An FSI semiconductor education can lead to various different qualifications in the semiconductor field, including Certificates, minors in semiconductors, resume building experience, and degrees.
