FSI Director David Arnold Honored with Induction into National Academy of Inventors

On June 18, 2024, in Raleigh, NC, FSI Director David Arnold was inducted into the National Academy of Inventors. Dr. Arnold’s portfolio includes 35 U.S. patents, with 8 currently licensed to 4 different companies. Among his notable contributions, he co-invented the microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone chip packaging technology, now used in billions of consumer electronic devices. His work also extends to circuit board audio array technology, which enhances sound localization in smart speakers and mobile devices. Dr. Arnold’s achievements have earned him the UF Technology Innovator Award four times and the UFRF Professorship from the UF Research Foundation.
