The Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI) hosted a Parent Information Session that equipped families with the knowledge and resources needed to support their children’s exploration of semiconductor education and career opportunities.
Parent Information Session Empowers Families to Support Future STEM Careers
Preparing the next generation for careers in the semiconductor industry begins not only with students, but also with the families who encourage and support their educational journeys.
The Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI) hosted a Parent Information Session at NeoCity, bringing together families from Osceola, Orange, Seminole, and Polk counties to learn more about Florida’s rapidly expanding semiconductor industry and the opportunities it offers.
During the session, parents gained insight into the state’s growing semiconductor workforce and explored the educational pathways that can help students prepare for careers in this high-demand field. Families were introduced to the FSI initiatives designed to keep students engaged in STEM while building the skills needed for tomorrow’s workforce: Chip in Florida, SemiClubs, STEM camps, industry experiences, and future learning opportunities.
A highlight of the event was hearing directly from a semiconductor industry engineer, who shared firsthand career experiences and answered parents’ questions about opportunities in the field. The discussion helped families better understand how they can encourage their children’s interests in science, technology, engineering, and advanced manufacturing while connecting classroom learning to future careers.
The Parent Information Session generated interest beyond the event itself.
Homeschool parent and educator Gena Walker shared that the session inspired families within her community to explore future opportunities in semiconductor education. Following the event, families expressed interest in participating in Chip in Florida, engaging in additional hands-on learning experiences, and even launching a Homeschool Semiconductor Club to keep students connected and learning throughout the year.
Walker’s feedback reflects the growing enthusiasm among parents and educators to become active partners in preparing students for Florida’s thriving semiconductor workforce.
By equipping parents with knowledge, resources, and industry connections, the Parent Information Session helped families better support their students as they explore, discover, and pursue opportunities in STEM.
