The Florida Semiconductor Institute and SkyWater Technology hosted an Intern Poster Board Session, showcasing the research, projects, and accomplishments of interns while connecting students with industry and community members.
Next Generation of Semiconductor Talent Presents Projects and Research at FSI Intern Poster Board Session
On July 30, the Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI), in collaboration with SkyWater Technology, celebrated the accomplishments of its interns during an interactive Poster Board Session at NeoCity. The event brought together students, industry representatives, educators, and community members to learn more about the research and projects interns completed during their internships.
Throughout the afternoon, interns presented their projects through professional poster displays, giving visitors the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with students about their work. The session highlighted the hands-on experience students gain through internships, showing how they apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world projects in the semiconductor industry.
For Ben Larry, assistant director of Workforce Integration at FSI, opportunities like these are an important part of developing the next generation of semiconductor talent and strengthening connections between students and industry.
“We have approximately 63 industry partners (because we discover new partners on a somewhat regular basis) across the state, and 56 of them are looking for interns,” Larry said.
Many of those opportunities have the potential to continue into 2026 and 2027 through co-op positions, allowing students to work with industry partners while they are still completing their degrees. Students interested in internship and co-op opportunities can complete a Student Registration Form through the FSI website.
“From that survey, we can align students with the industry partners based on their academic and career interests,” Larry said.
These efforts will continue as FSI, in partnership with the Florida Advanced Technological Education Center (FLATE), prepares for its next round of grant-funded paid internship opportunities. Outreach for the program will begin in September, when FSI plans to network with companies and share information with current students about available opportunities across Florida’s semiconductor industry.
For students interested in pursuing careers in semiconductors, programs like these provide an opportunity to gain practical experience, build relationships with industry professionals and explore potential career paths while still in school. The Intern Poster Session showcased the work students have already accomplished while highlighting FSI’s continued efforts to prepare and connect the next generation of Florida’s semiconductor workforce.
We would like to thank the Florida Semiconductor Engine and the National Science Foundation for supporting these internship and workforce development opportunities.
