Florida Semiconductor Institute Supports Advancement of NSF Florida Semiconductor Engine to Phase 2, Unlocking Up to $45M in Federal Funding

Osceola County, FL / Gainesville, FL — The Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI) joins regional and national partners in announcing that the NSF Florida Semiconductor Engine (FSE) has advanced to Phase 2 of the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines program, securing up to $15 million annually over the next three years, for a total of up to $45 million.

This advancement marks a transition from initial development to scaled execution, accelerating the translation of research into market-ready semiconductor technologies. The funding will support commercialization efforts, expand workforce development initiatives, and strengthen Central Florida’s position in advanced and specialty semiconductor packaging.

As a core partner in the Engine, the Florida Semiconductor Institute plays a central role in aligning academic research, industry collaboration, and talent development to support long-term growth of the semiconductor sector.

Phase 2 priorities include advancing use-inspired research into deployable technologies, expanding startup and industry partnerships, and building a sustained talent pipeline through targeted workforce programs. These efforts are designed to address critical domestic gaps in semiconductor manufacturing and packaging while reinforcing national supply chain resilience.

The Florida Semiconductor Engine operates out of NeoCity and is supported by a coalition of partners across government, academia, and industry working to establish a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.

This funding extends through March 2029, pending federal appropriations, and reflects continued national investment in Florida’s semiconductor infrastructure and capabilities.
